ABOUT Our FIRM
KEENE was developed out of two gaps in professional services that needed a unique subset of skills and experiences to adequately answer them.
The first gap is the misunderstanding that currently exists regarding fire/life safety principles between designers and developers, those in code compliance, and the fire service. Questions that are heard at the beginning of project are- Doesn't the building code handle this already? Why does the planning board not provide what the fire department wants? Can't the fire department just handle it? This is where KEENE brings a comprehensive effort to answer these questions.
The second gap is the need for a subject matter expert to be available to designers, developers, and owners that get "stuck" and need a clear solution to move their project along. Unlike a path to "get them out of something", KEENE has the ability to provide factual and referenced answers to keep the project moving. Application of existing building code methods, legacy building material properties, egress challenges, alternative material selections and fire-rated construction evaluations are examples of this work.
The two centers of focus have been formalized as our "fire service support" and "codes and standards" programs. Of course, our bedrock of fire engineering still stands as an overarching service that guides all decisions with both programs.
